WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) -- Everyone is OK, including the family pet, thanks to quick work by West Bloomfield firefighters over the weekend.

The West Bloomfield Fire Department says firefighter/paramedics from four of the township's fire stations responded to a reported house fire just after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

When they arrived on the scene, they determined that everyone in the family, except for the cat, was safely out of the house.

Crews determined there was a fire on the backyard deck spreading towards the attic and "made an aggressive attack," according to the WBFD — fighting the fire and searching for the cat.

The public responded to photos posted to the fire department's social media with thanks and appreciation. Jade Marie commented on Facebook: "What would we do without these brave souls???"

The WBFD noted that the family had working smoke alarms, adding: "Please be sure to test yours to make sure that they work!"
