KENT COUNTY (WWJ) -- A west Michigan detective was shot while conducting a murder investigation.
When a man was found dead inside a home on Thursday in Cutlerville, which is just south of Grand Rapids, a Kent County Sheriff's detective began a homicide investigation.
Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young told WoodTV that during the investigation a suspect arrived at the home and as detectives went to talk to the person, they noticed he had a rifle.
A struggle over the rifle ensued and the 19-year-old suspect fired shots, hitting a deputy in the hand, said LaJoye-Young.
The deputy is hospitalized and in good condition.
The suspect was arrested.
