WESTLAND (WWJ) -- A man who fled from police after an alleged domestic accident in Westland on Thursday is now in custody.

Westland Police said officers responded just before 9 a.m. to a domestic violence call in the area of Glenwood and Venoy.

Police said, when the suspect spotted the police, he fled to a vacant business in the 2300 block of South Venoy and barricaded himself inside.

According to a news release, after repeated attempts to speak with the man, a Westland Police Department negotiator was able to use de-escalation tactics to calm the suspect and convince him to surrender voluntarily.

The man was then arrested without incident.

The Westland PD added that, despite some initial reports to the contrary, the subject was found to have been alone inside the building.

At this time, police are not releasing any details about the alleged assault.

Police did say that this was not a random incident, and there is currently no threat to the public at this time.

The man's name is being withheld pending an arraignment on expected charges.
