ST. IGNACE (WWJ) A Westland man was found dead in the Upper Peninsula after he went missing Halloween evening.
Michigan State Police (MSP) said, on Halloween around 6:45 p.m., troopers responded to a report of the 59-year-old man who walked away from a residence he was staying at in Brevort Township—about 20 miles northwest of St. Ignace.
Troopers from the St. Ignace Post learned the man had dementia.
He was found dead in the area the following day (11/1) "despite extensive search efforts" involving State Police canine units, police choppers, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources; MSP said.
The man has not been identified. It's not clear why the man was staying Up North. No details were given about where they found him.
MSP said they are investigating the cause of his death, but do not believe it was caused by foul play.
