Overdose deaths continue to be a huge problem in Metro Detroit. What can be done to combat the crisis?

(WWJ) – Rising drug overdoses have many health experts across the U.S. sounding the alarm as the search for a solution continues to be a challenge.

Here in Michigan, overdoses are steadily rising. The state ranks in the top 10 nationwide when it comes to overdose deaths, seeing a nearly 30% increase between 2020-21. And there’s one common thread in more than 80% of those opioid-related ODs – Fentanyl.

In a new Daily J, WWJ’s Zach Clark investigates what’s driving drug abuse and searches for answers on how to stop Americans from dying. From less prescriptions to more readily available mental health care options, he digs into what can be done about this major problem.
