A 'bomb cyclone' is taking aim at Metro Detroit — What is that, and why are we seeing it after a mild start to winter?

(WWJ) — Heavy snow is headed to Michigan, with the storm system being labeled a “bomb cyclone.”

On this Daily J ahead of Metro Detroit’s first big winter storm of the season, WWJ's Brian Fisher explores just what a bomb cyclone is, and why we're seeing it now after what was a mild December.

While other parts of the state — especially West and Northern Michigan — are expected to see the worst of things, some spots across Metro Detroit are bracing for 3-7 inches of snow, with wind gusts topping 50 mph.
