DETROIT (WWJ) – Tigers Opening Day is an unofficial holiday in Detroit, and for the first time since 2019, Comerica Park will welcome a full-capacity crowd on Friday as the new season gets underway.

Festivities will begin bright and early, with tailgates and bar celebrations from Corktown to Greektown, and everywhere in between.

From parking and tailgates, to celebrity appearances and what can’t be brought inside the ballpark, here are some important things to know about Opening Day in Detroit.

• First pitch against the rival White Sox is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
Gates open at 10:30 a.m. and the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a 2022 season schedule magnet.
• The Miller Lite Home Run Happy Hour – located on the Pepsi Porch – runs from 10:30 a.m. until noon, with select concession items costing just $5, including 16 oz. domestic beers, pepsi products, hot dogs and more.
• The Tigers are reminding fans that all tickets at Comerica Park are now digital. Fans are encouraged to download tickets to their digital wallet before leaving home to make the entry process go smoothly.
• All bags, purses and clutches are prohibited from the stadium – only wallets sized 4” x 6” x 1.5” or smaller are allowed inside.

• Fans are encouraged to get downtown early, as parking will be tough to come by. Parking can be reserved in advance on ParkWhiz.com.
• Fans can park at the Ford Underground Garage at 30 Jefferson Avenue or the Eastern Market Garage at 2727 Riopelle for just $10. Both garages are open 6 a.m. to midnight.
• Drivers can also park at metered spots for up to four hours at a time. Meters can be extended at a parking kiosk or using the Park Detroit app.
• The Miller Lite Opening Day Tailgate begins at 9 a.m. in the McLaren Garage Plaza along Witherell Street outside the stadium, with a band, DJ, beer, photo stations and more.
• Detroit native and 12-time Grammy winner Jack White and his band will perform the National Anthem before flyover featuring four A-10 Thunderbolt “Warthog” aircrafts from the 107th Fighter Squadron, and part of the 127th Wing located at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
• The Tigers will honor the Little League World Series Champion Taylor North LL team prior to the game.
• The son of former Tiger Kimera Bartee will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Bartee, the team’s first base coach last season, died suddenly in December.
