(WWJ) – There’s a huge battle ongoing right to the heart of one of Michigan’s most important spots – the Straits of Mackinac.

Enbridge’s Line 5 oil pipeline has long been an international controversy. During her 2018 campaign, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer vowed to shut down the pipeline, which carries oil nearly 650 miles from Wisconsin to Ontario.

But that hasn’t happened yet. In large part because it’s a “spider web of legal fights and regulatory fights.” In a new edition of The Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Zach Clark looks at why Line 5 is so controversial, and what would happen if it were to shut down completely.
