LAKE ORION (WWJ) -- If some residents in Lake Orion have their way, the more than 150-year-old village could soon be no more.
Petitions presented to the Village of Lake Orion government seeking to dissolve the government could wind up on November's general election ballot.
The Oakland County Election Commission was scheduled to meet Wednesday afternoon, with approval of the ballots on the docket.
Residents looking to dissolve the village government say it's unfair that they have to pay taxes to both Orion Township and to the Village of Lake Orion, which sits inside the borders of the township.
It's unclear that, if the measure makes the ballot, if it has enough support to pass.
Village leaders say some services would be lost if the petitions are approved by voters, including the village police department and snow removal.
Lake Orion is located in Oakland County, about 40 miles north from Detroit. The most recent Census data shows the village is home to fewer than 3,000 people.
