DETROIT (WWJ) -- The National Weather Service is warning of possible power outages with some wet and windy weather in the forecast for the Metro Detroit area this weekend.

A Wind Advisory has been issued, in effect for Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair, Washtenaw, Lenawee and Monroe Counties from 10 a.m. Saturday until 12 a.m. Sunday.

The NWS warns that wind gusts up to around 50 mph are expected, which could blow down tree limbs, leading to "a few power outages. Unsecured objects left outside could also be damaged.

Forecasters say south to southwest wind gusts will develop first near the Ohio border by 10 a.m., and then progress northward as the center of strong low pressure moves through the region. Drivers are urged to use extra caution on the roads, especially if you're in a high-profile vehicle.

Something to keep in mind if you do lose power: The Michigan Public Service Commission has approved a new $35 credit that will be applied automatically to customers who go without electrical service more than four days when there are major outages in the state.

The changes come a month after more than a million Michigan homes and businesses lost power during a late-season ice storm.

Along with the wind, WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson said it'll be wet, with rain in the forecast Friday night and Saturday.

"It'll become steadier overnight," he said, "...Still some rain into tomorrow (Saturday) morning, perhaps even a rumble of thunder. And there will be a few lingering showers into the afternoon, but the rain won't be as steady...Might be a few wet snowflakes mixed in in some northern and western suburbs."

The forecasted high on Saturday is 51 degrees, with a low around 32.

Sunday is looking like a nicer day in Metro Detroit, with some sunshine mixed with clouds and a mild high of 54 degrees.
