SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Forecasters are warning of snowy, icy and potentially treacherous road conditions as temperatures drop in Metro Detroit.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday until 4 a.m. Friday for Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, and Shiawassee counties.

The advisory takes effect a little later, at 4 p.m. Thursday, for Wayne, Washtenaw Lenawee and Monroe Counties, also ending at 4 a.m. Friday.

"It is going to be a wintry mix mess here, later on this afternoon and into tonight," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore.

"We'll begin with some rain and drizzle is going to move in mid-to-late morning into the afternoon, mixes with some sleet and then snow, and then should turn over to all snow before ending tonight."

DeVore said temps will dip into the 30s during the day until falling down into the 20s in the evening hours Thursday, when roads and sidewalks are likely to be slick.

"What out for iciness!" DeVore said.

NWS is calling for total snow accumulations of up to two inches, as well as light freezing rain resulting in ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch in Metro Detroit. Driver are urged to prepare for hazardous conditions that could impact the evening commute.

"Slow down and use caution while traveling," NWS said.

Friday will stay cold, in the 20s with a flurry possible; although we could see some sunshine, too.

The holiday weekend looks better,

"We'll get into the mid-to-upper 40s as that early spring returns on Saturday and Sunday," DeVore said. "Both days look dry."

For President's Day Monday in Metro Detroit, AccuWeather is calling for a mild day in the 40s, with no snow or rain.
