(WWJ) Heads up if you plan to be out and about in metro Detroit on Tuesday: Forecasters are calling for slushy mix of snow and rain expected make for treacherous conditions on roads and freeways.

Following a cold and cloudy morning with temperatures in the 30s, AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says wintry precipitation will move into the area.

"As we get mid-to late afternoon we're going to see some periods of snow and rain break out," DeVore said, speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950.

In areas north and west of Detroit, DeVore said residents will see mostly just snow, with more rain in areas south of the city.

"But no matter what I think it's going to be a messy (afternoon) commute and visibility could be an issue," he said. "I think some of the areas north and west of the city could see a slushy coating to an inch. You go beyond that and there may be some spots to one to three inches... so keep an eye on that."

After a break from the wet stuff overnight, DeVore said, there's more cool rain in the forecast with temperatures in the upper 40s on Wednesday.

Thanksgiving Day will be a mild one; dry with with clouds and high temps around 50 degrees. Then Friday, Saturday and Sunday we could see some sun.
