(WWJ) A show of support for a Wolverine Lake police sergeant who is battling cancer.
Police officers from Wolverine Lake, Novi, Wixom and Milford joined with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department to escort Sgt John Marasco, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last September, from his Livonia home to his chemotherapy appointment at the University of Michigan Northville Health Center at Seven Mile and Haggerty roads on Friday morning.
"I've just been very touched by all of the support I've received and it's very emotional and I just love these guys for taking care of me like this," Marasco told WWJ's Charlie Langton. My goal is to get well enough so I can turnaround and give back more to everybody else that's been giving back to me."
Marasco has worked as a police officer for 31 years, 23 in Wolverine Lake.
The Wolverine Lake police department is working to raise money for his family to help pay for medical expenses and treatment costs.
A fundraising event to help his family is scheduled from 1 p.m. til 4 p.m. January 17th at the Kingsley Hotel in Bloomfield Hills.
The police department is also taking donations.
