ECORSE (WWJ) -- A mother and her two daughters were taken to a hospital after they were hit by a train, Sunday night in Ecorse.

Authorities said they were all hit around 7:30 p.m., as they were trying to cross railroad tracks, near the high school on Jefferson Ave. and Outer Drive.

While there's a lot of speculation as to how this happened, WWJ's Charlie Langton reports that the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are unknown at this time. There is also no confirmation of the ages of the mom and her daughers.

The three were reportedly on foot, although police have not confirmed that detail to WWJ, as we await more information from the the chief.

All three were alive when they were taken to the hospital. They were listed in critical condition Sunday night, but there is no update on their conditions as of early Monday.
