BRUCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A woman was taken into custody late Monday evening after troopers said she lied about attacking a man while intoxicated to get ahold of a weapon inside a Macomb County home.

Michigan State Police said troopers were called out to the property off Pearl Drive in Bruce Township just before 11:30 p.m. on a report of domestic violence.

When police arrived at the scene, a man came out of the home and briefly spoke to troopers before running back inside. Troopers tried repeated attempts to contact him, but he refused until he finally accepted their phone call.

"As troopers were talking to the male, a female ran from the house and told troopers the male currently inside had attempted suicide with a firearm earlier in the day," troopers added.

But as police continued to investigate, they found not all was as it appeared.

"It was determined that the female was not being truthful," MSP explained.

Investigators discovered the domestic violence incident happened inside the home and began when the man refused to allow the woman, who was drunk, get a hold of his pistol.

State police said the woman attacked the man when he tried to prevent her from taking the key to the safe where the gun was stored.

The female suspect was arrested and lodge at the Macomb County Jail. Her name and further information was not released by authorities. She is currently awaiting a prosecutor's review of the case, MSP added.
