DETROIT (WWJ) - A road rage incident in Centerline erupted in gunfire after police say a Detroit woman shot at another driver and led police on a chase while taking her brother to school.
In a press release dated for March 8, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said Carmelita Frye, 26, was arrested and arraigned on charges in connection to the incident that eventually ended at Centerline Preparatory Academy.
“Gun crimes are increasing in Macomb County and I will charge them all,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido
According to Centerline police, Frye was driving a black Dodge Journey owned by her mother when she allegedly open fired on another driver. Officers were dispatched to the scene and attempted to pull Frye over, but she took off.
"Frye fled the police and entered the Centerline Preparatory Academy parking lot, weaving in and out of pedestrians and cars," authorities added.
The woman eventually stopped the SUV and police were able to take her into custody.
Frye was charged with three felonies, including Fleeing and Eluding Third Degree, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Felony Firearm.
She appeared in court on Tuesday, March 7, where a judge ordered her bond be set at $100,000.00 cash/surety, no 10%. If Frye is released, she was also ordered to wear a steel cuff tether and have no weapons.
