Southfield woman charged in connection to the death of the 3-year-old daughter of a friend

DETROIT (WWJ) - Charges have been brought against a Southfield woman in relation to the death of a friend's 3-year-old daughter at a Detroit home.

It is alleged that 30-year-old Iesha Harris, of Southfield, "fatally assaulted" the child on March 17 at around 1:30 p.m. The incident took place at a home in the 15700 block of Southfield Freeway, according to a statement from the Detroit Police Department.


The child was transported privately to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The autopsy found that she died from blunt force trauma, the statement said.

Officials said "more complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record in court at the preliminary examination in the case."

Harris has been charged with felony murder and first degree child abuse.She was arraigned on March 20, where she was remanded to jail.

A probable cause hearing is set for March 27. The preliminary examination is scheduled for April 1.
