Woman faces charges in Southfield Fwy. crash that killed her 2-year-old daughter, injured baby

ALLEN PARK (WWJ) -- A mother from Detroit is facing multiple charges in a crash over the summer that killed her 2-year-old daughter, and critically injured her infant son.

According to Michigan State Police, 30-year-old Nyasha Renee Pool was impaired and speeding which she crashed into another car along northbound M-39, near Outer Drive in Allen Park, on July 20.


Pool's toddler, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, died after she was ejected from the vehicle, police said. Her 3-month-old son, who was not lap-belted, was also seriously injured after he was thrown from the seat.

MSP said Thursday that Pool was arraigned on the following counts: operating while intoxicated causing death, operating with license suspended, child abuse - second degree, operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, and operating with license suspended causing serious injury.

She was also listed as a habitual offender - third offense.

Bond was set at $300,000/10%, with a tether required if Pool is released.

Further proceedings in the case are pending.
