EASTPOINTE (WWJ) -- A woman is facing charges after she crashed into a police vehicle while allegedly driving drunk.
According to Michigan State Police, the crash happened at around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, along 9 Mile Rd. in Eastpointe.
MSP said a detective trooper was driving a marked MSP patrol car.on 9 Mile when he saw a car stopped at the stop sign on Brittany Ave.
After the trooper entered the intersection, it's alleged that a woman drove through the stop sign and hit the police car.
The trooper was not responding to a call at the time and did not have emergency lights or sirens activated, MSP noted.
The woman was "determined to be impaired," according to the MSP Second District, and was arrested at the scene.
“Thankfully our trooper was not injured in this crash,” said MSP Spl/Lt. Ty Howard, in a statement. “This incident serves as another reminder that impaired driving puts everyone at risk. If you are impaired, please do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle. Make a plan ahead of time and help keep our roadways safe.”
The woman is facing a charge of OWI (operating while intoxicated). Her name was not released.
