DETROIT (WWJ) – Police in Detroit are asking for the public’s help in finding a man they call a person of interest in a Christmas Day shooting that left a woman and her special needs daughter dead.

Authorities say the 57-year-old woman and 13-year-old girl were found shot dead around 4 p.m. on Dec. 25 at a home in the 18000 block of Prevost – near Outer Drive and Greenfield Road on the city’s northwest side.

Police are continuing to search for the victim’s husband, Dwayne McDonald, who is considered to be a person of interest in the case. McDonald is not the father of the 13-year-old girl, White said.

Detroit Police Chief James White said during a news conference late Saturday night that family members were supposed to go to the victim's house for Christmas dinner, but hadn't heard from them.

When they arrived to the home, they could see the woman's body on the floor through a bedroom window.

White said at that point, the 13-year-old girl's father forced entry into the home and found the bodies.

Officials said during Saturday night's news conference it was unclear whether McDonald is a victim in this case, but are "very interested in speaking with him."

McDonald is believed to be driving a gray Buick Lucerne with Michigan license plate EKY4047.

The police chief said McDonald is described as a Black male, approximately 6-foot-2. Police said he lives in the home where the murders took place.

Anyone who has any information about the murders or knows of McDonald’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department's Homicide Unit at 313-596-2260, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.
