SPRINGFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- A 34-year-old woman is dead after authorities say she ran stop sign, crashing her SUV into a pickup truck in Northern Oakland County Wednesday night. Two other people are in the hospital.
At 9:30 p.m., the Oakland County Sheriff's Office says Renee Vilders failed to stop at the stop sign at Holly Rd. and Dixie Hwy., and her Chevy Equinox hit a GMC pickup truck headed northbound on Dixie.
Both vehicles ended up off the road and into some trees, and the Equinox came to rest on its side against the trees, officials said,
Vilders, a Groveland Township resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 64-year-old Groveland Township man, and his 61-year-old passenger were both taken by EMS to a hospital where they were listed in stable condition.
It's not yet known if alcohol was a factor, with autopsy results pending, the sheriff's office said. Investigator noted that all three people involved were wearing their seatbelts.
An investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is ongoing.
