KIMBALL TOWNSHIP — Police in St. Clair County say one person was killed and several others injured, as a car slammed into a hayride on Saturday night.

It happened just before 7:30 p.m. along Smiths Creek Rd. west of Burns Rd. in Kimball Township, west of Port Huron. The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office tells WWJ that a 79-year-old man was driving a tractor that was pulling a trailer with five people riding along when it was hit from behind by a Buick Regal being driven by a 44-year-old man.

An 85-year-old woman who was on the hayride was killed, while the tractor driver is in critical condition. The driver of the Buick was treated for minor injuries.

The other passengers on the hayride included a 77-year-old woman from Kimball Township who suffered serious injuries, a 67-year-old woman from St. Clair Shores with minor injuries, a 62-year-old woman from Kimball Township with minor injuries, and a 54-year-old man from Kimball Township with minor injuries.

Everyone involved was treated on scene by Tri Hospital EMS and Kimball Township Fire Department and were all transported by EMS to local hospitals for further treatment.

Police say it appears the tractor did not have proper rear lights or a slow-moving vehicle emblem when it was hit.

The incident is being further investigated by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
