23-year-old woman dead, 21-year-old man arrested after calling 911 to report he shot fiancée and himself: Oakland Co. Sheriff

HIGHLAND TWP. (WWJ) -- A young woman is dead, and a young man is in custody after a shooting in Oakland County's Highland Township.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said its detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 23-year-old Highland Twp. woman at home in the 200 block of Maple, in a neighborhood just north of M-59.

According to investigators, a 911 call came in a little after 4 p.m. on Tuesday from a man who said he'd shot his fiancée and himself.

Deputies responded, and the victim — identified as 23-year-old Rachel Renee Wooten — was pronoucned dead at the scene.

The suspected shooter, a 21-year-old Highland Township man, was taken into custody without incident at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

Officials said the suspect and the victim lived together in the home.

The suspect's name has not been released, as no charges have yet been filed. It's unclear at this time if he was injured.

In a news release Wednesday, the OCSO said the case is expected to be turned over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
