BRANDON TWP. (WWJ) -- An Oakland County mother has died in a mobile home fire, while her teenage son and his two friends were able to escape.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the fire broke out at around 7 a.m. Monday in the Clarkston Lakes mobile home community, near Sashabaw Rd. and Oak Hill Rd. in Brandon Twp.

The mother’s 13-year-old son, who was in a bedroom towards the rear of the home, and two friends, boys ages 14 and 15, were in a front room.

Officials said all three teens were able to escape, but neighbors' attempts to rescue the 46-year-old woman were unsuccessful.

The boys were not injured, according to the sheriff's office.

Photos from the scene show the home was completely destroyed.

Sheriff Mike Bouchard said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

“While we are still in the process of determining cause and origin, any fire is a reminder that we should make sure our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order and we know how to escape from any room in our house should an emergency call for it,” Bouchard said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with this family in this difficult time.”

The woman's name was not released.
