(WWJ) A Kingsley, Michigan woman is facing felony charges for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars from a Two Men and a Truck franchise in Traverse City.
The investigation began in September, when the Michigan State Police Traverse City Post said it was contacted by the owner of the franchise about some missing money.
The suspect, 49-year-old April Dawn Steele, had been working for Two Men and a Truck since May 2023, according to MSP. A customer came in during the month of July and made a $7,000 cash deposit for services.
The owner claims they never received the money.
Police said they reviewed surveillance footage, interviews were conducted, bank records were checked, and Steel was identified as the suspect.
A report was turned over to the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued on Oct. 31 for Steele's arrest.
She was taken into custody by the MSP 7th District Fugitive Team on Tuesday and booked in the Grand Traverse County Jail.
Steele was arraigned in the 86th District Court in Grand Traverse County on one count Embezzlement Over $999 but less than $20,000, and Habitual Offender. Bond was set at $10,000 and her next court appearance was scheduled for Nov. 21.
