
MANISTEE (WWJ) -- A Manistee, Michigan woman is facing multiple charges after police say she sneaked narcotics into a Northern Michigan jail by hiding them in her clothing.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers came in contact with the woman after making a traffic stop at around 12:20 p.m. Monday, on E. Parkdale Ave near Airport Road in Manistee Township.
MSP said a trooper from the Traverse City Post pulled over a 41-year-old man from Manistee for defective equipment, and the 31-year-old woman was sitting in the passenger seat.
Police said woman confessed to the trooper that she had heroin in her purse. The suspected heroin was seized, and the woman was arrested and take to the Manistee County Jail.
During her booking at the jail, MSP said the woman was asked "numerous times" whether she was carrying any more drugs or other contraband, and she insisted that she wasn't.
The woman was then found to be concealing more drugs in her bra, which she "tried to destroy" putting in her mouth, police said.
A Manistee County Corrections deputy was able to stop the woman before she could eat the suspected heroin, which later tested positive for fentanyl.
The woman is facing charges for possession of heroin/fentanyl, smuggling contraband into a jail, tampering with evidence, and probation violation. Police said also has a warrant out of Muskegon County.
Her name was not immediately released.
