DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are doubling down on the importance of having a designated driver after an early morning crash left one woman dead.
Troopers responded to the incident on the westbound I-94 exit to Livernois on the city’s west side in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to investigators, the woman was exiting the highway just after 1 a.m. when she failed to follow the path's curve and instead drove straight into the median wall. She later died at the hospital from her injuries.
Police say the woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and an open alcohol container was discovered in her car.
No details about the woman’s identity or hometown have been released as the investigation continues.
