Woman fatally shot in the head, man 'cut' in the leg during violent domestic incident at Wyandotte apartment: police

WYANDOTTE (WWJ) - Police are continuing to investigate a deadly domestic incident after a woman was fatally shot and a man was injured at a Downriver apartment on Tuesday morning.

Wyandotte Police Chief Brian Zalewski told WWJ's Charlie Langton that officers were called out to the scene of a domestic situation at an apartment in the 1100 block of Sycamore Street when they discovered two victims.

"Officers arrived and located four people in the apartment," Zalewski said. "One of them was a female suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was immediately transported to a local hospital. A male in the house had a cut to his leg."

The victims, both in their late 20s or early 30s, were taken to different hospitals. The woman later died, the chief added, while the man was last reported to be in stable condition.

Langton said a gun was recovered from the scene, but what led to the shooting remains unclear.

An investigation is underway with the male victim cooperating with police, Zalewski said. No other information was made available.
