GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A baby born in Livingston County last weekend is garnering some attention after it was delivered by first responders in a Costco parking lot.
According to the Green Oak Township Fire Department, a husband and wife were on their way to the hospital when the baby decided it was ready to meet the world -- right that instant.
The couple had no choice, but to pull into the Brighton-area Costco Wholesale parking lot at 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd. as delivery was "imminent," officials said.
First responders with the local fire department along with Livingston County EMS personnel arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. to the baby being born.
They jumped in to assist with the delivery and stated there were no complications. Both mother and infant were taken by ambulance to a local hospital shortly afterward.
“This is an unusual situation, but we’re just glad mom and baby were doing well and we got them to the hospital,” Green Oak Fire Deputy Chief Tracy Chamberlain said via Mlive.
