INWOOD TWP. (WWJ) - A woman was killed after crashing her snowmobile in the Upper Peninsula Friday evening.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Manistique Outpost were called to a snowmobile crash in Inwood Township at around 7:20 p.m. Jan. 17. Inwood Township is west of Manistique.

Other people that were part of the woman’s group, but traveling behind her, called 911 shortly after the crash. Group members began lifesaving measures, including CPR, until first responders arrived.

Troopers were able to get to the site of the crash by traveling on snowmobiles.

First responders took over lifesaving efforts, but the 46-year-old Dodgeville, Wisconsin woman was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

An initial investigation showed the woman failed to navigate a curve while on a trail, causing the snowmobile to hit multiple trees.

“We offer our condolences to the family, friends and all those who knew the victim,” Lt. Benjamin Ekola, MSP Eighth District Public Information Officer, said. “We would like to thank our troopers, EMS personnel and all first responders for their efforts, as well as the snowmobilers who assisted in transporting MSP to the crash location and those who provided lifesaving efforts before the arrival of troopers and EMS.”
