ORION TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in Orion Township.
Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office were called to the intersection of Lapeer Road and Morgan Hill Drive at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday night to a call of a crash involving a minivan and a motorcycle, a press release from the Sheriff's Office said.
The preliminary investigation showed that 48-year-old Jennifer Billington, of Lake Orion Village, was traveling northbound on Lapeer Road on a 2012 Harley Davidson FLHX motorcycle. A 42-year-old Royal Oak man, driving a 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan, reportedly failed to yield when turning onto Lapeer Road from Morgan Hill Drive, at which point the motorcycle hit the van's driver's side.
Billington was wearing a helmet. Deputies performed lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived and transported her to McLaren Oakland Hospital. She later died due to her injuries.
The driver of the van was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. Authorities said alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
