WATERFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A head-on crash involving a Department of Public Works (DPW) cherry picker truck left a woman dead in Waterford Township, police said.

Waterford Township Police said they-- along with the Waterford Regional Fire Department-- responded to the area of Cooley Lake and McDougal on Thursday, October 2, at 10:45 a.m. They learned a Ford Escape had crashed head-on with a Chevy 6500 bucket truck.

The 66-year-old woman driving the Ford Escape was pronounced dead at the scene. The DPW employee in the cherry picker was not hurt.

Preliminary investigation suggests the driver of the Ford Escape was driving eastbound on Cooley Lake when she crossed the centerline and crashed with the DPW truck, traveling westbound.

The Waterford Citizens Emergency Response Team assisted with traffic control while fatal crash investigators processed the scene.

The woman's name and city of residence were not released.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol are factors. However, the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash should call Sergeant Stan Mathewson at (248) 618-6086.
