Woman killed in crash with gravel hauler after losing control of Jeep on I-75 Thursday morning: MSP

HAZEL PARK (WWJ) -- One person is dead after a crash involving a Jeep and a gravel hauler on I-75 Thursday morning.

Michigan State Police said it happened at around 6:40 a.m., as the driver of a Jeep Compass and a Kenworth gravel hauler were heading northbound on the freeway in Hazel Park.

An investigation found that the woman driving the Jeep lost control and spun into the path of the gravel hauler after 9 Mile Rd., near Woodward Heights Blvd.

Police said the gravel hauler hit the Jeep on the driver's side, pushing it about 750 feet before it came to a stop.

The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The gravel hauler driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

“Troopers are currently working to notify the family of the driver as they are out of state," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. “We continue to remind drivers to slow down and drive carefully when road conditions change. Troopers investigated over 35 preventable crashes across the district since midnight.”
