CANTON TWP. (WWJ) -- Canton Police are investigating after a 30-year-old woman was found dead in her home.
This happened Monday afternoon, inside the house on Pinehurst Drive, off Cherry Hill Rd. and Canton Center.
Police said they responded at around 3:30 p.m. to a call about a domestic violence situation, and woman who wasn't breathing.
When officers arrived on the scene, the woman was pronounced dead, police said.
Police took a suspect into custody, but their identity and relationship with the woman is unknown at this time.
No names have been released, allowing time for family to be notified.
Officials have not said how the woman was killed.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and that the case will be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for charges once it's complete.
Police added, in a statement: "There is no known threat to the public’s safety at this time."
Clinical therapist Dr. Sabrina Jackson believes stress pushes a lot of people to domestic violence.
"People not having jobs, the financial state that they're dealing with. And when people are stressing, the people that they live with see the worst of that," said Jackson, in an interview with WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Vitale.
In many cases, Jackson said people experiencing domestic abuse often suffer in silence.
"There is such a sense of shame that I have allowed myself to be in this position now, with a person that I loved, that you saw me at the family cookout with. That now it has turned so bad, and people do not want to share that," Jackson said.
