NOVI (WWJ) -- A young woman is dead and a young man is in the hospital after a crash involving a semi truck and a car in Novi Tuesday night.

At around 9:40 p.m., Novi Police said EMS and its officers responded to northbound M-5, just south of 14 Mile Rd., on a report of a serious two-vehicle crash.

According to Novi Police Lt. Adam Elsen, a 20-year-old Farmington Hills man was driving a Cadillac in the Michigan-left turnaround to go north on M-5 when his car was hit by a semi.

"A 20-year-old female passenger in the Cadillac died at the scene; she's from Walled Lake," Elson told WWJ Newsradio 950. "The driver of the Cadillac was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment."

"The driver of the semi truck was not injured," he added. "MSP accident investigators and our investigators have been working the scene through the night."

Elson said investigators can't confirm what caused the crash at this time. However, he said there's no indication that it was raining at the time, so they don't believe wet roads contributed to the crash.

There is no update on the injured man's condition. No names have been released.
