(WWJ) A 36-year-old Holland, Michigan woman died in an off-road vehicle crash in Alpena County over Labor Day weekend.

According to officials with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Stephanie Marie Cozzolino was pronounced dead at the scene, on a rural trail about 2 miles north of Graham Rd. in Long Rapids Township.

Investitures found that, shortly after noon on Sunday, Cozzolino was riding ab ORV when she hit a pothole, lost control, ran off the trail and struck several trees.

Sgt. Mark Depew, of the DNR Law Enforcement Division, said Cozzolino was with her husband, who was riding behind her on a second ORV and witnessed the crash.

He tried CPR, but was unable to save his wife, officials said.

The crash remains under investigation.

The DNR reminds ORV riders to "Ride Right" by slowing down, staying to the right-hand side of trails and riding sober. More ORV safety tips for Michiganders are available HERE.
