GROSSE POINTE FARMS (WWJ) -- Two Grosse Pointe Farms police officers rushed into action after a 70-year-old Detroit woman was found face-down in Lake St. Clair.

The officers responded to emergency calls about a small Kia vehicle in the water near Lake Shore and Newberry Roads Monday at around 8:15 a.m. They arrived to find the front of the vehicle submerged while the rear was resting on the retaining wall. However, there was no one in the vehicle.

The officers locating a woman about 50 yards west of the crash and another 30 feet into the water due to the current. She was face down when they got there and managed to resuscitate her after more than a minute of life-saving measures.

After regaining consciousness, she told the officers she drove into the water intentionally, police said.

The woman is recovering in the hospital.

The Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety is thanking the concerned citizens who quickly dialed 911. "Their swift action enabled our officers to arrive on the scene within two minutes, which was critical to the outcome of this incident."
