STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A woman is hospitalized with serious injuries after a head-on crash in Sterling Heights.

Hayes Rd. was closed between 17 Mile and 18 Mile roads following the crash, Tuesday afternoon, but reopened to traffic just before 5 p.m.

According to Sterling Heights Police Lt. Mario Bastianelli, a 57-year-old female driver was headed northbound on Hayes when she crossed the center line and crashed into a vehicle headed southbound.

The impact of the crash caused the woman's car to flip over.

Bastianelli said investigators are still working to determine what caused the woman to veer into oncoming traffic.

She was extracted from the vehicle by emergency responder and rushed to a hospital for treatment. There is no update on her condition at this time.

The other driver involved suffered only minor injuries, Bastianelli said.

No further details have been released.
