STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A woman is hospitalized with serious injuries after a head-on crash in Sterling Heights.

Hayes Rd. was closed between 17 Mile and 18 Mile roads following the crash, Tuesday afternoon, but reopened to traffic just before 5 p.m.

According to Sterling Heights Police Lt. Mario Bastianelli, a 57-year-old female driver was headed northbound on Hayes when she crossed the center line and crashed into a vehicle headed southbound.

The impact of the crash caused the woman's car to flip over.

She was extracted from the vehicle by emergency responder and rushed to a hospital for treatment. There is no update on her condition at this time.

The other driver involved suffered only minor injuries, Bastianelli said.

No further details have been released.
