Police arrest 'armed and dangerous' suspect accused of fatally shooting girlfriend in Clinton Township

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - An armed and dangerous suspect who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend in Clinton Township has been apprehended, police say.

The Clinton Township Police Department said a man was arrested sometime on Tuesday, a day after a women was found fatally shot at an apartment in the 37000 block of Little Mack near 12 Mile on Jan. 15.

According to the department, officers were called out to the scene around 4:30 p.m. after receiving a report about a victim who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found a women who had sustained a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives say the male suspect identified in the case knew the victim and confirmed the two were in a domestic relationship.

While police say the incident appeared to be isolated, but the suspect -- who was considered "armed and dangerous" -- eluded arrest and had not been located.

On Wednesday (Jan. 17) morning, police provided an update stating the suspect had been taken into custody.

So far, no motive for the shooting has been released. Detectives will forward their findings to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, who will then determine what charges will be filed.
