Woman shot outside senior living facility in Sterling Heights, suspect is in custody

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) -- A woman was shot in front of an assisting living facility Tuesday morning in Macomb County, but investigators say there is no danger to the public.

Sterling Heights Police said the shooting happened at around 8 a.m. on July 29 at Pomeroy Senior Living, in the area of 15 Mile Rd. and Dequindre Rd. in Sterling Heights.

Sterling Heights Police Cpt. Mario Bastianelli, who characterized the shooting as a domestic incident, said the victim works at the facility.

She was arriving for work when she was shot by a man in the parking lot.

No one else was hurt.

Bastianelli told WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton the woman was taken to a local hospital.

The suspect was arrested.

Bastianelli said the victim is being treated for her injuries and is expected to survive.

"Ultimately, a very crazy, tragic incident, but ultimately with a good outcome with the bad guy being in custody and the female, she's getting the help that she needs," Bastianelli said.

Police said both the man and the woman are in their 30s, and both are from Warren. They have the same last name, but police have not yet confirmed how they are related.

The gun used in the shooting was recovered.

The investigation is ongoing.
