MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) -- A 37-year-old Mount Clemens man is behind bars after it's alleged he stabbed an acquaintance multiple times, while trying to rob her.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office says the victim, a 41-year-old Clinton Township woman, survived the attack Tuesday night, in the area of Jones Street and Park streets in Mount Clemens.

According to investigators, the woman had met the suspect through some mutual friends back in 2023, and agreed to "hang out" with him that night.

When she arrived to meet up with the suspect, at around 10:30 p.m., it's alleged he attempted to rob her.

Due to their friendship, the victim first through the man was joking when he tried to steal her purse. When the two began to struggle over the bag, sheriff's officials said the man stabbed the woman at least seven times.

The suspect then fled the scene, but was found and arrested.

The sheriff's office noted that the man "appeared to be highly intoxicated," when he was taken into custody.

The victim was treated at a hospital where she was last reported in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The name of the suspect, who's in the Macomb County Jail, is being withheld pending his arraignment.
