DETROIT (WWJ) — Detroit police officials are asking for help from the public tracking down a woman who allegedly attacked a dollar store employee with a box cutter.
It happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27 at a Family Dollar on Harper near Chalmers on the city's east side, according to the Detroit Police Department.
Authorities say a woman — who employees knew by the name “Cheryl” — tried to take items from the store without paying. When she tried to leave, an employee confronted her and told her to put the items back, officials said.
That’s when the suspect pulled out a box cutter and assaulted the employee, a 32-year-old woman. The suspect ran away from the scene.
The victim was treated for her injuries at the scene.
Police officials did not say what items the suspect stole from the store or how much they were worth.
On Wednesday Detroit police released a photo of the suspect, asking anyone who recognizes her or knows something about the alleged assault to call the Detroit Police Department’s 9th Precinct at 313-596-5940.
