(WWJ) An Oak Park man has been ordered to pay his ex-girlfriend half a million dollars after posting naked photos of her to the internet without permission.
The often times socially and emotionally damaging phenomenon for victims is known as "revenge porn."
"It often times occurs by a jilted former lover after a relationship ends. They'll put the content on a porn site, and one site turns into two, turns into four, turns into eight and before you know it, the pictures are all over the internet," said Kyle Bristow, the victim's attorney.
The man, 39, posted at least six pictures of her to a porn site, according to Bristow.
The Detroit Free Press reports the suspect has been harassing the woman, 35, for at least eight years and has "completely ruined her life;" according to her victim impact statement. She now lives in Maryland.
Bristow has written a pamphlet, available on Amazon.com, called "The Revenge Pornography Victim's Guide To Removing Pictures From the Internet."
The suspect has 10 years to pay out the $500,000 to his former girlfriend.
