FOWLERVILLE, MICH. (WWJ) A shipping/receiving handler died in a workplace accident in Fowlerville.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) said in a statement the man, 31, was operating a Hi Lo (a forklift-like vehicle) Monday afternoon to move nylon sacks full of plastic pellets.
The bag of pellets weighed between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds, according to MIOSHA.
He was found unresponsive by his colleagues with a nylon sack on top of him, officials said. While no one apparently witnessed the accident, investigators assume the bag fell on top of him.
First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The victim was an employee of RheTech, a Detroit-founded compounding company that was acquired by HEXPOL compounding in 2015. He has not been identified.
