DETROIT (WWJ) — An investigation is ongoing after a wrong-way driver crash closed a portion of I-75 in Detroit Sunday evening.
It all started when police began receiving calls of a wrong-way driver on I-375 that hit multiple vehicles near Lafayette before continuing onto I-75 around 7:30 p.m.
Michigan State Police officials say the driver continued north in the southbound lanes before hitting a Ford passenger car and several other vehicles.
The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed at Caniff for several hours after the crash.
MSP officials said Monday morning the at-fault driver, a 43-year-old woman, was listed in "very critical condition." The driver of the Ford was also in critical condition as of Monday.
Investigators are still working to determine whether she was drunk or on drugs. Officials say the at-fault driver also had a suspended driver’s license.
The case will be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
