NORTHFIELD TWP. (WWJ) -- A Brighton man is dead after police say he drove a Jeep in the wrong direction on the freeway over the weekend, and crashed into another vehicle.
According to Michigan State Police, this happened at around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, along US-23 at Territorial Rd. in Washtenaw County's Northfield Twp.
Police said a 58-year-old man from Brighton was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee southbound in the northbound lanes of US-23 when he crashed into a 2009 Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
Both drivers were taken by ambulance to University of Michigan Hospital where the Jeep driver was pronounced dead.
Police said the driver of the pickup, a 26-year-old man from Montrose, was treated for minor injuries.
It's unclear at this time why he was driving the wrong way, as the investigation continues. MSP said it is not yet known if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
The name of the man who died was not released.
