DETROIT (WWJ) - Troopers say it was fortunate they apprehended a wrong-way driver on M-10 early Tuesday morning as authorities also discovered the man was driving while impaired.
Michigan State Police said the Detroit Regional Communications Center received calls from other drivers on the Lodge around 12:35 a.m., who reported seeing a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction near Forest in Detroit.
Troopers were dispatched to the area and found a driver speeding north in the left southbound lane of M-10. Police were able to catch up to the driver just north of 8 Mile, MSP said, and conducted a traffic stop at the Lasher exit.
According to police, the driver -- identified as a 62-year-old male from Clinton Township -- was found to be operating the vehicle while drunk.
The 62-year-old was arrested and lodged in jail awaiting a prosecutors review and possible charges, MSP said.
"This is just another example of the bad driving behavior we are seeing across the district," state police said on social media. "Fortunately, the trooper was able to stop the driver before anyone was hurt or killed."
