TROY (WWJ) -- A Troy police officer was on the scene when a drunk driver was traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way Sunday at around 2:30 a.m.

Shown on a dashcam video released by the Troy Police Department Friday, the driver of the Jeep Wrangler turned the wrong way onto Stephenson Highway, north of Maple Road.

The officer then used a U-turn lane to drive after the wrong-way driver to pull them over. Police said the driver was arrested without incident.

Officials said the driver has not yet been charged or arraigned in the case and is waiting on a decision from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.

Along with the video, the Troy police tweeted, "Great job by our midnights Officer stopping this wrong way drunk driver on Stephenson Hwy before someone got hurt."

Troy police said their officers have arrested 16 drivers for driving under the influence since the start of the New Year.

"Incidents have included crashes, a driver with a blood alcohol level almost 5x the legal limit, and wrong way drivers like this," tweeted the Troy police.

The police encourage those who are planning to drink, to do so responsibly and encourage people around them to do the same.
