DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police have arrested a man who allegedly attacked a Wayne State University student inside of her Midtown Detroit apartment, after she let him in to use her bathroom.

It happened Saturday, July 19, at around 11 p.m.

The student told campus police that the man, whom she did not know, asked to use her bathroom at the Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments on campus, and she let him inside.

It's alleged that the suspect then lured the student into the bathroom, tried to shut the door, implied he had a knife, and threatened to sexually assault her.

During a struggle, the woman said she was physically assaulted by the man.

Police said the woman ultimately deescalated the situation, convinced her attacker to leave, and called 9-1-1.

Police said the suspect, described to be around 20 to 30 years old and sweaty with a strong body odor, used the aliases “Joshua” and “Clarence Jose.”

He was identified and taken into custody Monday afternoon.

WSUPD said the man was found and arrested on campus, but has no ties to the university. His name was not immediately released, with charges pending.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Darrylin Horne spoke with several students left rattled by the incident, including Avery, who used to live those apartments.

"Bering an international student, I'm also new here in America. It was quite really, really scary for me," she said. "Because, as far as I know, this university — I mean, this specific apartment here — is very strict when it comes to visitors and stuff."
