WYANDOTTE (WWJ) A federal jury convicted a Wyandotte man on child pornography charges.

Emory Day, 39, was convicted of distributing and possessing child pornography following a 6-day jury trial.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison said the jury deliberated for less than two hours.

Evidence presented at trial showed an investigation began when a man called 911 to report he had been sent child pornography through the dating and friendship app, MeetMe. The man also said the same user had “discussed the ongoing abuse of a child,” according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney.

Using records from MeetMe, the FBI and Dearborn Police “worked swiftly” to find the suspect; according to the statement.

“This defendant sent child pornography to others and fantasized about the sexual abuse of a child,” U.S. Attorney Ison said. “His actions re-victimized the children depicted in the images that he repeatedly sent to others.”

In early June of 2021, the FBI conducted a search warrant of Day’s home and found the phone he was using to send the pornography to other people; the U.S. Attorney said.

Day is slated to be sentenced on February 7, 2023. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison. He could face up to 40 years behind bars.
